| Get ready for a whole new look |
|
Thanks to the valuable input from several Green Businesses, the SF Green Business Program has been hard at work rebranding our program and redesigning our website and logo. We believe these efforts will help consumers identify and patronize sustainable businesses, as well as better assist businesses as they go through the process of becoming "green." Look for a fresh logo and shiny new website in February, 2009. We'll be in communication on how these changes may affect your business. We ask for your patience during the transition; we think you'll be quite pleased with the results! |
| Benefits for commuters |
Employees who take the bus, train, ferry, or vanpool to work can save around 40% on their commuting expenses with Commuter Benefits. The federal government allows employees to deduct up to $115 per month from their paychecks, pre-tax, to pay for transit and vanpool expenses. As a pre-tax payroll deduction, employers save on payroll taxes and can write-off Commuter Benefits as a business expense. The cost of administering the program is often less than the savings achieved by offering it. Thousands of employers across the country are offering Commuter Benefits to their employees - please join them! |
| Green Business Corner |
We at the TheGreenOffice.com regularly calculate our office-related greenhouse gas emissions using our Office Footprint Calculator™. Our calculator considers the most important emission-producing practices and products in the workplace (transportation, electricity, waste, etc.), allowing you to enter your own measurements and view the national averages.
By using this calculator periodically, we've been able to identify both our current footprint as well as the most cost-effective areas for improvement. We encourage you to do the same! |

| Results are In... |
In case you had any doubt, going green saves resources! The results from our recent study show that 25 SF Green Businesses saved an annual total of 224,188 kilowatt hours of energy, 971,993 gallons of water, 116 gallons of hazardous materials, 382 tons of greenhouse gases AND they recycled over 700 pounds of paper per week. Contact us for the full report. |
| Time To Renew? |
|
Did you know your Green Business recognition is only valid for one calendar year? You can extend your recognition for two years by submitting an Annual Self Certification Form. Businesses recognized in 2005 will need to demonstrate additional improvements and complete new checklists. |
