Description
EHDD Architecture is a national leader in architecture, design, and sustainability with exceptional expertise in libraries and educational facilities, buildings for science, and housing, as well as museums, aquariums, and zoos. Over our sixty-year history, we have developed an award-winning practice that integrates planning, technology, and the user experience.
One of our core philosophies is that sustainable buildings should simply be better - more inviting and comfortable to live and work in, able to enhance our daily lives, and more innovative and inspiring in their design.  This way of thinking started with EHDD's founder Joseph Esherick, dating back to the late 1950s where detailed site studies at The Sea Ranch that included daylighting and wind and solar analysis were performed for our early residential designs.  Today, this integration of planning and technology to improve the user experience continues with an increased awareness of the impact of all of our actions on the immediate and broader environment.

  • We currently have 47 LEED-accredited professionals at EHDD, with eligible staff continually working towards accreditation through our focused educational program.

  • Our portfolio contains four LEED-Platinum and three LEED-Gold rated buildings; three AIA COTE Top Ten Green Buildings; and two completed Zero Energy/Carbon Neutral buildings with more than a handful in design including Stanford's Green Dorm.

  • We target ALL our buildings to use half as much energy, on average, as California's strict energy code requires.

  • We are committed to quantifying the actual energy performance of our completed buildings including independent post-occupancy evaluations (POE).

  • We advocate strongly for sustainable design through our circle of clients and in our communities, including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Packard Foundation, and Mills College in Oakland.

  • We maintain an office culture that demonstrates how an exceptional, integrated sustainable practice can improve our quality of life in a cost-effective manner.
