The KH office has taken many strides towards sustainable design/practice, including:
- Achieving LEED® Certified Commercial Interior certification with multiple features, including the installation of light sensors on all lights, reusing existing carpet and ceiling tiles from the existing space, proficiency in waste diversion during construction, purchasing furniture produced from recycled materials, and using energy star appliances.
- In addition to standard recycling techniques, KH also utilizes a worm bin which contributes to "nature's cycle" and cuts down on garbage going into burgeoning landfills. The compost is then sprinkled on the soil of our office plants and/or integrated into garden soil for employees; also the compost 'tea' from the collector tray is a liquid fertilizer.
- The firm promotes and displays artwork from NorCal Waste Artist-in-Residence Program, which inspires people to reuse more and conserve natural resources. KH is a strong supporter of this organization for both educational purposes as well as in support of the local community of San Francisco.
