In our view, "green" design is simply good design. It evolves from establishing practical, ethical and regenerative connections between the built environment and the natural world upon which we all depend. Our design process creatively engages the issues of site and land use, energy efficiency, environmentally appropriate building materials, indoor air quality, water conservation and waste reduction, resulting in buildings and landscapes that embody the principals of environmental stewardship and help lead the way to a sustainable future.
- An early proponent of sustainable design, LMSA was the sixth architectural firm in the nation to join the U.S. Green Building Council. Over 50% of our architectural staff are LEED Accredited Professionals.
- Three of our projects - the Thoreau Center for Sustainability, the California College of the Arts San Francisco Campus, and the Nueva School Hillside Learning Complex - have been named "Top Ten Green Buildings" in the nation by the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment.
- We have completed three LEED-certified projects, including the Nueva School (Gold), the San Francisco office of the Natural Resources Defense Council (Gold), and the Plaza Apartments (Silver). Certification is currently pending on three LEED-Platinum rated projects.
- Our business practices and office environment reflect our professional values. Our daylit space is designed for resource-efficiency and healthy indoor air quality. Our operations emphasize recycling and reuse. We encourage bicycle and public transit commuting by offering on-site bike parking and commuter checks.
