We are committed to ‘greening’ our own personal lives and business for the sake of our children, our planet, and future generations. Green building is not complicated or necessarily more expensive, it really about good design, which includes:
- Properly planning a project for connection to the community, preservation of land, good solar orientation and use of natural lighting
- Construction of good quality, durable buildings with flexible planning
- Careful selection of materials and systems for indoor air quality, comfort and health
- Conservation of resources (energy, water, materials, and money
In our business practice:
- We recycle, compost, conserve, advocate and try to continually educate ourselves as well as our clients so that we can make good long lasting decisions.
- We regularly volunteer with City College of San Francisco Sustainability Committee to help initiate potential changes to the campus facilities, procedures and curriculum, and have also volunteered to help the EcoCenter at Heron's head point in its partnership with CCSF.
- We have added a leased solar PV system to our roof three years ago, which offsets all of our peak power use during business hours while eliminating CO2 and saving money every month.
- We installed a gray water system to water newly planted fruit trees and bushes with reclaimed water from our home laundry. With this system and some new free low flow devices obtained through the SFPUC, our water use has been cut almost in half.
- We are in the process of beginning an energy retrofit to our property, built in 1922, to add insulation, replace an inefficient furnace, and seal air leaks through SF Environment’s San Francisco Home Improvement and Performance Incentive and will be writing about the process on our blog at www.beausoleil-architects.com

- We are trained as Certified Green Building Professionals and Green Point Raters with Build It Green and currently have four new homes and one remodel in process that will be Green Point Certified.
